General Information

The capitol of Chad is N'Djamena. The national anthem is called " La Tchadienne" ( The Chadian). The blue on the flag stands for sky and hope. The yellow stands for the sun and red stands for fire and unity.

Chad is one of the poorest countries in the world, but projects are being undertaken in agriculture, biodeersity, and forestry. Arable land makes up less than 3 percent (1993 estimate) of Chad's total land area. This situation has led to significant population pressure, which is compound by the threat of desertification.

Population:

The population in Chad is a small number comparing to the United States population number. Their population is 6,361,000 (1995 estimate). The population growth rate is 2.7 percent(1990-1995 average).The population per square mile is 12.9 (1995 estimate).

Some of chads major trade partners for exports are France, Nigeria And Cameroon. Some major its trade partners for imports are United States, France, Nigeria, and Cameroon.

Industries: 

Some of Chads industries are cotton textile mills, slaughter houses, brewery, natron(sodium carbonate),soap, cigarettes, and groundnut oil milling.

 

Geography:

Chad is located in Central Africa. Chads neighbors are Libya (to the north),Sudan(to the east), Central Africa Republic (to the south), and Cameroon, Nigeria, and Niger (to the east). The Area is 495,755 square miles.Chad is slightly smaller than Peru.

 

 

 

 

 

 The Lake Chad dominates Chad's terrian, rising gradually from low-lyingplains to mountains and pleatues on the north, east, and south. In the east thhe Ennedi and ouddal plateausreach heights of mpore than 4,131 feet. The huighest elevations are in the Tibesta in the north, where Emi Koussi, an extinct volcano. reaches a max. height of 11,0204 feet. The northernhaf of the republic lies in the Sahara Desert.

md.ot and muggy.The central section has three seasons : hot from March to July, rainy from July to October,and cool durin the remaining months.Rain fall in the central section averages to about 10 to 30 in..The southerrn sections rainfall averages to about to 45 inches. TEmperaturesin the northern desert often reach 120 degrees fahrenheit ( 49 degrees celcius). This region recieves less than 5 inches ( 13 centimeters) of rain every year. Central Chad averages 25 inches ( 64 centimeters) of rain each year, while southern Chad recieves about 40 inches ( 100 centimeters) each year.

 

Government:

A president heads the national government Chad. A cabinet, headed by a prime minister, carries out the operations of the government.Chad has forteen divisions of local government called Prefectures. Local authority rests with traditional chiefs in some areas and with officials appointed by the national government in other areas.
