MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF
THE ZIONSVILLE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD

February 12, 2003

The Zionsville Board of Park and Recreation met Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. All Board members were present. Roger Burrus, Board Counsel and Al Smith, Park Superintendent were also present.

Art Small moved to approve the January minutes. Seconded and passage was unanimous.

Superintendent’s Report

Al Smith reported the following: Bam Outdoor has chipped the collected Christmas trees at the cost of $1,000, the State has approved the Department’s 2003 budget, the Ladies Tennis League has requested use of the tennis courts for their Spring and Fall sessions, and that the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce has requested use of Lincoln Park each Wednesday evening in June and July for the Lincoln Park Concert Series.

Jeff Glass moved to allow the Zionsville Ladies Tennis League use of the tennis courts for their Spring and Fall sessions. Seconded and passage was unanimous.

Linda Oxenrider moved to approve the request for use of Lincoln Park for the 2003 Lincoln Park Concert Series and to support one concert in the amount of $200. Seconded and passage was unanimous.

OLD BUSINESS

Bradley Property

George Tikijian reported that the Town Council has made an offer in the amount of $1.934 million to purchase 37 acres of the Bradley property. The March and April Board meetings will be dedicated to a forum of public recommendations for the future park.

Learn Something New/Community Center

Budd Glassberg presented the Learn Something New Profit & Loss Statement. Although the statement shows a net profit of $26,375.97, he expressed concern about declining tuition income and the program being able to support a paid director.

Zion Nature Sanctuary

Al Smith reported that the contract with Mattcon General Contractors has been finalized.

Linda Oxenrider moved the Board approve the claims submitted. Seconded and passage was unanimous.

The next Park Board meeting will be March 12, 2003.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
