THE ZIONSVILLE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD
July 9, 2003
The Zionsville Board of Park and Recreation met Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. Board members George Tikijian, Art Small, and Tim East were present. Roger Burrus, Board Counsel and Al Smith, Park Superintendent were also present.
Art Small moved to approve the June minutes. Seconded and passage was unanimous.
Superintendent’s Report
Al Smith reported the following: the Rail Trail’s side ditches have been treated for mosquitoes, 48 Garden Plots have been rented for the 2003 season, and that a bronze plaque for the outdoor classroom at the Zion Nature Sanctuary would cost approximately $500.
The consensus of the Board was to purchase the plaque.
OLD BUSINESS
Budget Estimate
Al Smith presented a revised 2004 Budget Estimate and the second quarter Expense/Budget Reconciliation.
Art Small moved that the revised 2004 Budget Estimate be submitted to the Town Council for approval. Seconded and passage was unanimous.
Zion Nature Sanctuary
Al Smith reported that the outdoor classroom and boardwalk are in place. The trail and bridge still need to be installed.
Bradley Property
Al Smith reported that eleven firms submitted proposals for the preparation of a park conceptual plan. There was discussion on the proposals. The consensus of the Board was to further consider the submitted proposals from Anorlas, CEA, Cornerstone, and Ratio. It was also the consensus of the Board to make a final selection at the August Board meeting.

Marianne Doyle reported that the Zionsville Historical Society will prepare and submit a preliminary homestead maintenance and restoration study prior to the August Board meeting. She also reported that pledges would be accepted for the preservation of the homestead.
NEW BUSINESS
The Board asked that Roger Burrus investigate alternate possibilities for the installation of a trail from Elm Street Green to Lions Club Park.
Art Small moved the Board approve the claims submitted. Seconded and passage was unanimous.
The next Park Board meeting will be August 13, 2003.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
