MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF

 

THE ZIONSVILLE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD

 

October 9, 2002

 

The Zionsville Board of Park and Recreation met Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 7:30 p.m.  Board members George Tikijian, Jeff Glass, Art Small, and Deb Ruckman were present.  Roger Burrus, Board Counsel and Al Smith, Park Superintendent were also present.

 

Deb Ruckman moved to approve the September minutes.  Seconded and passage was unanimous. 

 

Superintendent’s Report

 

Al Smith reported that the Department did not receive TEA grant funds for the Turkey Foot Bridge and Pathway Project. 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

1st Annual Zionsville 10 Miler

 

Budd Glassberg reported that the 10-mile run will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2002 at 1:00 p.m.  The start/finish line is at the Zionsville Boys & Girls Club.  The course includes the Zionsville Rail Trail and Starkey Park.

 

American Legion Trail Crossing

 

Laura Mulligan will contact Cornerstone Planning and Design concerning the preparation of construction documents.

 

North Rail Trail

 

Al Smith reported that Cornerstone Planning & Design continues work on the engineering for a paved pathway from the Rail Trail to Pleasant View Elementary.  George Tikijian reported that Zionsville Community Schools might be willing to share in the cost of the pathway.

 

Zion Nature Sanctuary

 

Al Smith reported that final approval from Ken Hedge, County Surveyor on the wetland design has been received.  The project will be put out for bids in November giving the Board the opportunity to accept a bid at the December Board meeting.

Creekside

 

Al Smith reported that INDOT is not requiring acceleration/deceleration lanes.  Construction should begin next week.

 

Wetland Area

 

Laura Mulligan will follow-up with Robert Carter on the status of the wetland area.

 

Community Center

 

Joe Farah reported that fall session classes are underway.  He also reported that Zionsville Community Schools is in the process of converting the building into the new freshman center.  This will limit the buildings use as a community center.  Other facilities are being sought.

Art Small moved the Board approve the claims submitted.  Seconded and passage was unanimous.

 

The next Park and Recreation Board meeting will be November 13, 2002.
