THE ZIONSVILLE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD
October 8, 2003
The Zionsville Board of Park and Recreation met Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. Board members George Tikijian, Linda Oxenrider, Art Small, and Tim East were present. Roger Burrus, Board Counsel and Al Smith, Park Superintendent were also present.
Art Small moved to approve the September minutes. Seconded and passage was unanimous.
Superintendent’s Report
Al Smith reported that the Garden Plot area will be plowed shortly after 10/22/03. He also presented the 3rd Quarter Report and a Reappropriation Request. The consensus of the Board was to present the Reappropriation Request to the Town Council for approval.
OLD BUSINESS
Zionsville Youth Football League (ZYFL)
Rusty Denton, ZYFL President asked the Board for use of Jennings Field. He reported that approval has been obtained from Zionsville Community Schools.
Art Small moved to allow ZYFL use of Jennings Field contingent on Roger Burrus’s review of the lease agreement between the Board and Zionsville Community Schools. Seconded and passage was unanimous.
Zion Nature Center
Gabrielle Nicholas, Community Coordinator reported that she is very pleased with how popular the center has become and considers it a great success. The Board thanked the Zion Nature Center Committee members for all of their efforts in making the center a huge success.
Zion Nature Sanctuary
Tim East reported that a dedication of the park has been scheduled for October 16, 2003.

New Park Property
George Tikijian reported that the Zionsville Historical Society has provided a proposal in the amount of $10,000 for the winterization of the barns. The Historical Society is prepared to pay for the winterization but requires the Board’s approval of a restoration project and a commitment to a transfer of property or a long-term lease. The consensus of the Board was to delay any decision until the final conceptual plan is in place. Ratio Architects is scheduled to present the final conceptual plan at the December Board meeting.
Al Smith reported that a Special Board meeting is scheduled for October 29, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. Ratio Architects will present preliminary plans and ideas for the new park.
Linda Oxenrider moved the Board approve the claims submitted. Seconded and passage was unanimous.
The next Park Board meeting will be November 12, 2003.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
